What this is
Systems Strategy Impact is a collection of practical frameworks for understanding systems, designing strategies, and measuring impact. The work bridges the gap between systems thinking and rigorous evaluation by connecting how systems are mapped to how change is measured.
Most approaches treat strategy design and evaluation as separate activities. The frameworks here start from a different premise: the same understanding of a system that guides what you do should also guide how you measure whether it worked.
The frameworks
Three core frameworks form the foundation:
Systems Mapping
Actions & Actors: how to map a system in terms of who does what, and how to connect mapping to measurement.
Measuring Systemic Change
Six Steps: a step-by-step process for assessing system performance and understanding why systems change.
Driving Behaviour Change
Building Blocks: the fundamental mechanisms that actually drive actors to change their behaviour.
Papers
The frameworks are grounded in academic research, published in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings on systems mapping, evaluation methodology, and behaviour change.
Key publications include "Six Steps to Assess Systemic Change" (2020), "Actions & Actors System Mapping" (2022), "Mechanisms of Social Change" (2018), and "Building Blocks of Programme Theory" (co-authored with Rachel Shah, 2020).
